His parents immigrated to Pennsylvania from Pacentro, Italy.
He served in the Air Force and on completion of his enlistment earned a degree in Physics from Geneva College.
Armed with his degree he gained employment with Chrysler and then General Dynamics in suburban Detroit, where he worked as an Optical Engineer.
He and his wife Joan lived in Rochester Hills for over 30 years, raising eight children.
Joan operated a daycare out of their home.
Tony always had a couple rows of grapevines in the back yard carrying on his father's tradition of making wine which he learned growing up in Pennsylvania.
When Joan and Tony retired, they headed north to wine country to pursue his dream of owning and operating a vineyard.
Searching for the best place to plant grapes, they acquired the Hilltop Rd.
property in October of 1995.
The following spring, they planted the first five acres of grapes by hand.
The varieties include Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, and Gew rztraminer.
Ciccone Vineyard & Winery is looking for a flexible person with some experience for wine production, vineyard, and facilities help.
Wine Production Worker Responsibilities Under the general direction of the Winemaker, the Cellar Worker will perform various Cellar tasks that include but are not limited to:
Operate winery equipment and consistently follow cellar protocols.
Use equipment to:
move grapes, juice, pomace, lees through the process of winemaking and safely/correctly make any additions as directed.
Participate in the general cleaning/housekeeping of winery equipment, facility and grounds.
Drive forklift.
Work safely and follow all safety guidelines.
Additional hours may be available if desired doing other work if desired.
Overtime is required during harvest.
Essential duties and
Responsibilities:
Assist in all phases of winery activities such as harvest, crush, fermentation, pump over, racking, filtering, blending, bottling, etc.
Cleaning and sanitizing tanks, barrels, and winery equipment.
Operate cellar equipment such as pumps, filters, presses, crushers, etc.
Safely operate forklift to move barrels and case goods.
Proper use and handling of winery chemicals and additives.
Ability to understand and follow all winery safety procedures.
Assist with special events and Harvest duties as needed.
Ability to follow direction and complete work.
Ability to carry, drag and lift empty, full or pressurized wine hoses and attach with clamp fitting to tanks, pumps transfer lines or tank washers to transfer wine, juice must, rinse water or cleaning solutions.
Must be able to lift 30-50 Lbs.
Ability to operate pressure washer to clean cellar floors, equipment, tank pads General cellar housekeeping:
prepare necessary cleaning solutions, sweep, clean cellar floors, chemical storage room and winery grounds.
Keep warehouse areas in a neat and orderly fashion Perform any other duties as assigned by management/supervisor.
Be an active and positive member of the team and work to support team members.
Follow all safety protocols and procedures Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Overtime is required during harvest.
Ability to read, write, speak and understand instructions given in English.
Must be able to lift 30-50 lbs.
